Winter Holiday in So Cal

Posted on December 21 2018

Hey all you Hip Parents!

The holiday season is upon us and I feel like I’m losing my mind over here trying to cram as much holiday spirit as possible into a few short weeks. There are so many places and sites to see and definitely not enough time to do it all. So I decided to share with you guys a few of our favorite holiday stops here in Southern California.

First up, Disneyland. I know the crowds and sky rocketing ticket prices can be a deterrent, but if those don’t scare you off then it’s definitely worth soaking in that one of a kind Disney magic. We were annual passholders for years and with the littles it was so worth seeing their faces when they saw the castle all lit up with snow. There’s not one part of the park that isn’t perfectly decorated for the holidays. And who can forget those extra special seasonal snacks!?

Skating by the Sea at the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego is another picturesque experience as well. Who doesn’t want to ice skate on the beach!? Only in California, right? Hotel del Coronado really does a beautiful job of bringing the holiday spirit to the seaside. And best part is you can snag some awesome deals for this event on groupon. SCORE!

The Festival of Lights at the Mission Inn in Riverside is one of our must-see every year as well. And it’s free! Walking the streets and seeing how extravagant the hotel and neighboring buildings are, makes you feel like you could be in the North Pole minus the snow aspect. Now that they close of the streets in the evening through December it’s a fun family trip that won’t cost you much more than a hot chocolate or 2.

Another free event is the Harbor Boat Parade in Dana Point. I mean do I even have to describe this one? The name says it all right? This one takes a fun twist on your typical Christmas parade and instead you’ll see tons of twinkly lights on boats. And if you’re willing to shell out some extra dough you can even score a dinner boat ride in the boat parade. We did this one year, obviously sans children, and it was so much fun! Twinkly lights and champagne just seem to go together.

Lastly, if you can spare a weekend in December, take a trip to Santa’s Village up in Lake Arrowhead. You and the kids will believe you’re in the North Pole. It’s truly a Winter Wonderland in this rustic village with shops and attractions to cater to everyone’s holiday desire. No Grinches here!

Hope you all enjoyed some of our holiday traditions! Warmest Wishes!
